Will there be changes to the BCS?

Published by suscott at 4:49 pm under Sports Edit This

For the next three days, 11 college football commissioners and Notre Dame athletic Director Kevin White will meet in Hollywood, Fla., to take another look at The Bowl Championship Series. For the past 10 years, the BCS has decided the National Championship.
This format has been much maligned and has had a large number of critics. Since 1999, this format that was supposed to match the top 2 best teams in the country has had the Associated Press’ top teams face off in seven of the past 10 years.
Some teams that were criticized for being chosen by the BCS formula to play in the title game included #3 Florida State in the ‘01 game, #4 Nebraska in ‘02. AP #1 USC was left out of the ‘04 title game and though #2 LSU won it all last year, they were the first AP two-loss team to do that in the BCS era.
Most fans and media are clamoring for a plus one bowl game to match the winners of the other BCS winners. We’ll see if that gets accomplished in these meetings.
