BCS Plus-One Proposal to be discussed on Wednesday
Fans and media hoping for a change in the Bowl Championship Series meeting at Hollywood, Fla., will have to wait till Wednesday morning for the BCS to address some potential major moves in the 10-year old BCS format.
SEC commissioner Mike Slive hopes to jump start this process and will discuss a plus-one game format which would revamp the current BCS system to two semifinal games to lead in to a national championship game. If the proposal is accepted, the changes would take place after the 2009 season, when the present BCS contracts with the bowl games and TV networks end.
It has been reported by ESPN.com that the league commissioners and Notre Dame athletics director Kevin White have a scheduled five-hour meeting to talk about the potential plus-one addition. The commissioners must vote unanimously on whether to move ahead with the plus-one model or eliminate the idea.
I know this debate for a true college football title game has raged on for decades. In my opinion, I hope that some day it will happen. Hopefully, this coming season we will finally see this change.
